After finishing an apprenticeship in the printing industry, Martina Wember studied communication sciences at the University of Arts in Berlin (Universität der Künste Berlin) and communication design at the Berlin-Weissensee art college (Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weissensee). She works as an illustrator and artist in Berlin. Her style is minimalistic and associative, she concentrates on reduced lines which offen result in ironic grace. She illustrates for, among others, the Tagesspiegel, taz, brandeinsWissen, various book publishers and advertising agencies. For some of her drawing books she was awarded a prize by the Stiftung Buchkunst and by the Art Directors Club NY. In 2009, her poster “B_parks” was awarded gold in the competition “CODE for Berlin”. Ms. Wember moves between applied illustration and free drawing, is open for projects that connect these two directions and designs books that often deal with relationships of all kinds.
