Interview

The students and staff of the MA Identity Design study programme at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences believe in the inspiring qualities of communities, their own as well as those anywhere on this planet. Moreover, it’s what they focus on. Their course provides a space for the in-depth study and critical discussion of collective identity in its various forms of expression and appearance. Students develop a deeper understanding of identity shaping processes in social, cultural and economic contexts. They are encouraged to combine methods derived from artistic and design practice with techniques from the social sciences to gain new insights into and create tools for identity driven communication. Miró Ingmar Tiebe aka MIRUEL is an illustrator from Hamburg, Germany. In his works he is always looking for more variety in his style. He is influenced by the stylistics of Art Nouveau and many science fiction artists of the 70’s and 80’s, as well as contemporary graphic design and long walks through nature, where he likes to observe the forms of plants and landscapes. By combining all these differences in his work, he aims to creates new visual forms of expression and dynamics in illustration.

Roberto Pérez Curbelo (aka Potto) studied visual communication design at the Superior Institute of Design of the University of Havana, ISDi. He has developed works that address the graphics of plastic arts exhibitions, book covers, design of serial publications, spots and movie and theater posters.

Vadim Vasilev aka Vadicore is an artist born in 1989 in the beautiful city of Ventspils, currently based in Velikiy Novgorod. He grew up surrounded by industrial landscape and white sands bordering with cold and endless waters of the Baltic Sea. Post-soviet era was a strange place to be in, with its dark aesthetic and a soundtrack mixed with metal, trip-hop and electronic music. Vadicore first started drawing out of boredom but later created his own visual language inspired mostly by women.

Jannik Stegen is an illustrator from Heidelberg, Germany.
In his works he explores geometric compositions and organic elements. Inspired by people and nature he narrates stories through joyful characters; sometimes to tell a message, sometimes just for fun.

Hélder Dias is a Graphic Designer by profession and heart, graduated from ESEIG (currently ESMAD), lives and works in the great Porto. His passion ranges from typography and editorial design to branding and illustration, passing through many other creative fields.
 With a strong opinion about design and a posture of constant learning between practice and theory, he strives to explore unique concepts that suit each client, thus responding to the most varied needs of visual communication. Nothing is left to chance.

Matteo Bertin is an italian based art director who designs experiences to improve communication among people. Because of his experimental approach to design his studio is packed with movable types and old printing machines.
Matteo believes that focusing on the design method rather than the final result can be the right choice to guarantee better and long-lasting products.

Janosch Feiertag lives and works in Kassel where he also runs and curates the gallery “FEIERTAG“ which is connected to a billboard project. Inspired by bulky waste, sausage stalls and his neighbours, he started drawing in his childhood and now collaborates with artists from Germany as well as abroad. Janosch studied fine arts and visual communication in Kassel and Kraków and is a trained theater painter.

Guillaume Kashima is a french illustrator living in Berlin. He started his career as a graphic designer in advertising – later moved on to illustration. From this experience, he kept a direct and minimal approach of images as the main carrier of communication. His work today embraces different fields and mediums, such as prints, apps or objects in general. Guillaume‘s work is very versatile in terms of visual aesthetics, but his process always originates from boldness and humour.
